Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students

Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students

Our school is committed to fostering an inclusive and caring learning environment. We provide appropriate support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students to help them adapt to school life and build confidence in learning Chinese.

Chinese Language Learning Support

Since the 2020/2021 school year, the school has established a “Chinese Language Learning Group” to support NCS students in developing their Chinese language skills. Learning activities are conducted in small groups or on an individual basis.

The curriculum content, learning progress, and assessment tools are planned by the Learning and Teaching Team. Teaching materials with QR codes for pronunciation support are developed to enhance students’ listening, speaking, and word recognition skills through storytelling, nursery rhymes, and daily vocabulary practice.

From October to June each year, students attend one weekly after-school session (approximately 30 minutes) to consolidate their learning and strengthen daily language application.

Tablets, reading pens, and materials from the “Jockey Club Fun to Learn Chinese Programme” are incorporated into lessons. A “Language Corner” is also set up in classrooms to provide continuous exposure to Chinese in a fun and interactive way.

In regular classroom teaching, teachers make appropriate adaptations according to students’ language abilities to strengthen their learning confidence.

Inclusive Cultural Activities

The school integrates multicultural elements into campus activities to promote mutual respect and cultural understanding among students.

During birthday parties and festive celebrations, students may wear traditional costumes from different countries and share cultural experiences with one another.

A “Cultural Learning Area” is set up in the school hall, displaying landmarks, costumes, languages, and music from various countries, allowing students to appreciate diverse cultures in daily school life.

Family Support

Class teachers regularly explain school notices to NCS parents to ensure clear communication.

At the beginning of each school year, the resident social worker proactively contacts parents to understand students’ needs and provide appropriate support.

Parent-child activities for NCS families are organized to strengthen home-school partnerships and introduce the school’s language support initiatives.

The school also assists families of graduating NCS students in registering for relevant Education Bureau seminars to help them prepare for Primary One transition.

Professional Development for Teachers

Teachers participate in relevant training courses, seminars, workshops, and lesson observations to enhance their professional capacity in supporting NCS students.

The Learning and Teaching Team holds regular meetings to review curriculum content, learning progress, and students’ performance in the Chinese Language Learning Group to ensure continuous improvement.

Our Commitment

Through structured language support, multicultural activities, and strong home-school collaboration, our school strives to create an inclusive environment where every student feels respected, supported, and empowered to grow.
